Film BA Program

About

The B.A. program is a 48 credit hout in-person program.

Freshmen start with three core classes introducing basic aspects of film production, narrative structure, composition, and editing.

In their sophomore year, students take Film Production I, focusing on hands-on filmmaking and opening the door to most of the electives offered in the program.

In their junior year, students continue focusing on hands-on production in Film Production II as well as taking electives in a wide range of possible courses, including cinematography, editing, audio, and other technical areas. They also generally take required courses in cinema history.

Finally, in their senior year, students take Film Production 3 and 4 in which they make their capstone year, as well as finishing their elective and film studies requirements.

Our program features extensive hands-on experience meaning our graduates are comfortable with being on-set, crewing, and working with a wide range of equipment.

Career Readiness

An MFA in Film from ÍøÆØÃÅ prepares graduates for a wide range of possible career paths:

  • For graduates seeking work in the film industry, there are generally two paths: free-lancing and corporate/non-profit work.
    • Free-lancers may work to write, direct, and produce their own films. Additionally, they may do work for hire as writers, directors, producers or do more specialized production work as cinematographers, editors, sound mixers and designers, production designers, production managers, etc. Finally, those wishing to work independently may start their own firms specializing in a variety of areas within the film production area.
    • Those seeking work in the corporate world may find promising careers at production houses, in advertising, or making external or internal content for corporate production arms. They may also find work in the ever-expanding field of social media creation and management.
    • Those seeking work in the non-profit work may find work with museums, charities, hospitals, as well as a variety of service organizations. As with the corporate world, social media creation and management in the non-profit sector continues to expand.

Graduates from the program at ÍøÆØÃÅ have worked in all these areas. We’ve had graduates write, direct, and produce their own features, freelance on multi-million dollar productions, start their own production companies, work for major corporations and non-profits including Walmart, Lamar Advertising, and the Salvation Army, and teach at a range of colleges and universities.
