CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble will host a second Student Spotlight Series concert as its next performance in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. April 23.
The event is free and open to the public.
The performance includes several selected pieces ranging from classical works to brand new compositions as well as a special performance by ÍøÆØÃÅ music education major Travis Shaver and graduate conducting intern Mary P. Light.
Shaver is a co-winner of the ÍøÆØÃÅ Wind Ensemble Student Spotlight Competition and the second student featured this semester. He will perform a clarinet solo in Jeanjean’s “Au Clair de la Lune.” Light will conduct Gordon Jacob’s “Old Wine in New Bottles,” a collection of old English folksongs in a new setting.
The ensemble will also perform “Luminescence,” a new piece by David Biedenbender and “Symphony in Bb” by Paul Hindemith.
“This concert will be a great way to end a very successful semester of performances,” ÍøÆØÃÅ Director of Bands Dr. Ricky Brooks said. “We are able to perform pieces like the Hindemith Symphony because of our very talented and hard-working students.”
The ÍøÆØÃÅ Wind Ensemble performs twice a semester as part of its Campus Concert Series. For more information on the ÍøÆØÃÅ Wind Ensemble, contact Brooks at (501) 450-5764 or rickyb@uca.edu.
