Globalization, Gender, Development, Stratification and Social Inequality, Domestic Violence, and Demography.
Dr. Akhter’s current research projects focus on two broad areas: a) Digital media and cultural globalization and how they impact gender ideologies and empower women through e-commerce in the digital economy. b) Effects of child marriage on maternal mortality and under 5 mortality.
Her other area of research is gender-based violence and homicide.
